Artist Statement
This series grew from a desire to honor the animals that coexist within the landscapes around us. The gold circles and concentric lines draw upon sacred iconography found across cultures, illuminating our shared place within the living world and the unseen patterns that connect all living things.

My hope is that somewhere in this series, each viewer finds an animal they connect with. If recognizing their sacred place in the world encourages you to remember that you belong to the natural world alongside them, then perhaps that kinship will find a quiet resonance within you, allowing it to ripple outward.

Rick Medina is an artist and educator residing in Golden, Colorado, where the local wildlife and surrounding land serve as the primary inspiration for his paintings. His practice is rooted in a desire to honor the natural world and highlight our shared place within it.
